How do I claim funds for the swap fee?

Contents

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to swap some tokens but you don't have enough coins to cover the network fee for the swap, don't worry! The Atomic Wallet team has got you covered. You can use the 'Claim' service and we'll cover the expenses for you. Keep reading to learn more about the details of this feature.

Why do I need to pay a fee for a swap?

In short, the process of a swap consists of two transactions. The outgoing transaction and the incoming transaction. With the outgoing transaction, you send funds to the address of our partners. With the incoming one, you receive funds from our partners. The aforementioned outgoing transaction requires a network fee to be paid. This fee is set up by the blockchain itself, we do not charge any additional transaction fees. That's the fee we are offering to cover. More about the process of a swap here

Can't you just take the fee out of the amount I'm trying to swap?

When it comes to swapping tokens, it's only possible for centralized platforms, like Binance or Coinbase. They are able to charge fees from the token's balance as they have access to your funds. As a decentralized wallet, we have no access to your funds, so we cannot charge the fee from your token balance. You need to have some ETH on your balance to be able to send/swapETH-based tokens, the same goes for BSC and BSC-based tokens, etc.

In short, if you are trying to swap a mainnet coin, then the fee is indeed taken out of the amount you are trying to swap. For example, you have 1 ATOM you are trying to swap. The transaction fee for ATOM is 0.005 ATOM. Since ATOM is a mainnet coin, the 0.005 ATOM will be taken out of the 1 ATOM you are trying to swap. In other words, 0.995 ATOM will be swapped, while 0.005 will be consumed as the network fee.

But it doesn't work the same way with tokens. The tokens require the network fee to be paid in the mainnet coin of the blockchain that they are running on. If you have 100 USDT on the ETH blockchain, for example, the fee is required to be paid in ETH. If you have BTT tokens that run on the TRX blockchain, the fee must be paid in TRX, and so on. If you do not have the required asset to cover the network fee, you will not be able to swap your token unless you deposit some funds to cover said network fee. Or simply use our 'Claim' service.

Are there any restrictions on the Claim service?

Note: as a general rule, claim service is a one-time courtesy.

Every claim request is thoroughly reviewed. We check if you actually have any tokens to swap by checking your address on the block explorer. If you don't have anything to swap, we will not be able to send you the funds. We also check if you have enough funds to cover the fee yourself. If you do, we are not going to be able to send you the funds. They are reserved only for users who cannot afford to cover the fee themselves. You will receive your funds only if your claim request fits these criteria.

Overall, while the claim service might help you out if you are in a tight spot and need to urgently swap your funds, we recommend depositing some funds to cover the fee yourself and not to depend on this service. Just check what asset you need to cover the fee for a certain swap and then deposit those funds, following this guide: How do I deposit funds to Atomic Wallet?

How do I claim funds for the swap fee?

First, make sure you actually don't have enough funds to cover the fee by yourself. If you do, we will not be able to send you the coins. If you don't have enough funds to cover the network fee for the swap, the wallet will tell you. You'll get a warning saying 'You should have 0.00002241 ETH'. Similar messages will appear for other assets. See the examples below.

  1. A screenshot of what the warning looks like.

  2. In order to claim the funds, click the 'Claim ETH' button. In case you need to claim another asset, the button will change to 'Claim TRX'/'Claim Tfuel'/etc.

  3. After you've clicked the button, your default mail app will open with the message to our Support Team. Your address will be automatically filled in. You just need to send the email.

  4. As soon as we receive your email we'll send the required amount. We usually reply within 1 hour.
