Getting started with staking

KMD offers users one of the easiest ways to earn passive income just by holding it in the wallet and making at least one transaction a month. Learn what you need to do in this article.

KMD 101: things you need to know

First reward In 80 minutes
Regular rewards Every month
Yearly yield 0.01%
  • You’ll have to pay a network fee every time you want to claim your rewards. The fees are charged by the Komodo blockchain directly. If you're interested in learning more about how they work, see Does Atomic Wallet charge any additional transaction fees?
  • Your KMD will stay on your balance when staked. Unlike most other blockchains, Komodo doesn't freeze your deposit for the staking period. You're still free to send or swap them.
  • You’re staking your address. You can’t choose the amount you want to delegate—you’re staking all the Komodo you currently have. The minimum staking amount is 10 KMD. If you deposit more funds to your address, they’ll get added to the staking pool automatically.
  • You’ll receive your first rewards in about 80 minutes. See the Rewards section for more details.
  • In order to keep the stake active, you need to make at least one transaction per month. If you're not making at least one transaction a month, your address will stop accumulating rewards.
  • You need to claim all of your rewards before sending funds out of the wallet. Otherwise unclaimed rewards will be lost.

KMD staking rewards

You'll be receiving rewards with every new block mined, i.e. every 80 minutes or so. You will need to claim your rewards manually.

Warning: If you have unclaimed KMD rewards, DO NOT transfer your regular KMD funds elsewhere. If you do that, your unclaimed KMD rewards will be lost and defaulted to 0. To prevent that, before sending your funds to a different wallet, please ensure that you have claimed your KMD rewards beforehand.

How to unstake your KMD

With Komodo, there's no need to unstake your deposit, as you're always free to move your coins around, staked or not. If you still want your deposit to stop accumulating rewards (e.g., for tax purposes), you can achieve that by transferring your coins to another address or by not making any transactions for at least a month which will deactivate your stake until a transaction is made.
