Troubleshooting Missing Cryptocurrency in Atomic Wallet

If you've noticed that cryptocurrency is no longer visible in your Atomic Wallet, or a transaction you sent hasn't arrived, this can be concerning — but there is often a clear explanation. This guide helps you diagnose what actually happened to the funds.

First, rule out a display issue. If your funds show as confirmed on the blockchain but simply aren't appearing in the app, this is usually a display or sync problem, not a loss. See our guides on balance display issues and missing balance after receiving funds. This article covers cases where funds may have actually left your wallet.

Common reasons crypto goes missing

Several factors can make cryptocurrency appear missing:

  • An unconfirmed or failed transaction.
  • Funds sent to an incorrect address.
  • Funds sent using the wrong network (e.g., an ERC-20 token sent to a BEP-20 address).
  • Unauthorized access, if your backup phrase was compromised.

Step 1: Verify the transaction on a block explorer

Every crypto transaction is publicly recorded. Start by checking it directly on the blockchain.

  1. Locate the transaction ID (TXID) or hash in your Atomic Wallet history, or ask the sender for it.
  2. Go to a reliable block explorer for your coin — for example, etherscan.io for Ethereum or bscscan.com for BNB Smart Chain.
  3. Paste the TXID into the search bar.
  4. Check the transaction status — pending, confirmed, or failed. If it's confirmed, you will also see the destination address.

If the transaction is still pending, it may simply need more time — see our guide on transaction confirmation delays. If it shows as failed, the funds typically remain in your wallet.

Step 2: Check the address and network

Missing funds often result from sending to the wrong address or on the wrong network.

  1. Confirm the exact address. Double-check every character of the address that was used.
  2. Verify the network. This is critical. Sending an ERC-20 token (Ethereum network) to a BEP-20 address (BNB Smart Chain), for example, can result in lost funds. Always make sure the sending and receiving networks match.

Important: Funds sent to an incorrect address or on a mismatched network cannot be recovered by Atomic Wallet. Blockchain transactions are irreversible once confirmed. No third party can reverse them — anyone claiming they can recover such funds for a fee is a scammer.

Step 3: Rule out unauthorized access

Your 12-word backup phrase is the master key to your wallet. If it was shared, exposed, or stored insecurely, someone else may have accessed your wallet and moved your funds.

  1. Consider whether your backup phrase could have been exposed — for example, entered on a website, stored digitally, or shared with anyone.
  2. Check your transaction history on the block explorer for any transactions you don't recognize.
  3. If funds were moved without your action, your wallet is likely compromised. Immediately move any remaining funds to a brand new wallet created with a new backup phrase.

Note: Atomic Wallet will never ask for your backup phrase or private keys. If someone requests them — even claiming to be Atomic Wallet support — it is a fraud attempt. Never share them with anyone.

Step 4: Contact support with details

If these steps don't resolve the issue, contact Atomic Wallet support at support@atomicwallet.io. Provide all relevant details:

  • The exact cryptocurrency and amount.
  • The date and time of the transaction.
  • The transaction ID (TXID / hash).
  • Your wallet address for that coin.
  • Screenshots of the transaction history from your Atomic Wallet and the block explorer, if possible.

What Atomic Wallet can and cannot do

Atomic Wallet is non-custodial — you are solely responsible for your backup phrase and private keys. We cannot access your funds or reverse transactions.

Atomic Wallet can:

  • Help you understand transaction statuses.
  • Guide you through troubleshooting steps.
  • Confirm whether your wallet displays the correct balance based on blockchain data.

Atomic Wallet cannot:

  • Recover funds sent to an incorrect address or on the wrong network.
  • Reverse or cancel any blockchain transaction.
  • Access your backup phrase or private keys.
  • Recover funds if your backup phrase was compromised.
