How do I stake EGLD?

Getting started with staking

Staking is quite a simple process — instead of just holding your EGLD in your wallet, you put it to work, by staking it. How come you get paid for it, however?  

By delegating your EGLD to a validator of your choice, you're putting your trust in them, which makes them more influential on the blockchain. As validators get paid for confirming blockchain transactions, they in turn pay back to those who supported them. That's how you earn your rewards!

  • You’ll have to pay a network fee every time you want to stake or unstake your EGLD. The fees are charged by the MultiversX blockchain directly. A minimum transaction fee is 0.006 EGLD.   • A small amount of EGLD (three times the amount of the network fee) will be reserved for future fees for claiming/unstaking transactions when you stake. That means that these funds are still on your address and are available to send away or swap, but are not available for staking. It is done in order to avoid a situation in which you accidentally stake all of your funds and are unable to unstake your coins or claim your rewards.
  • Your deposit will be locked. Your EGLD deposit will be frozen throughout the staking period. This means your staked EGLD won’t be counted as your available balance. Also, you won’t be able to transfer or swap them. 
  • Unstaking does not happen immediately. Unstaking takes 10 days to complete. Once you hit the Unstake button, your deposit will be frozen for the unstaking period. 
  • Staking rewards. You'll be getting rewards every 24 hours, at approximately 02:20 PM UTC. You need to claim your rewards manually. 
  • Minimum amount for staking is 1 EGLD. You cannot stake less than 1 EGLD. 
  • Minimum amount for unstaking is 1 EGLD. You cannot unstake less than 1 EGLD. When unstaking, please make sure that you do not leave any amount that is less than 1 EGLD with the validator. The MultiversX network has a 1 EGLD requirement when submitting transactions. You can either unstake all (leaving 0 EGLD with the validator) or unstake all but 1 EGLD (leaving 1 EGLD with the validator). You cannot leave, let's say, 0.5 EGLD with the validator. 
  • There is a minimum reward claim amount, it's three times the amount of the EGLD network fee. That means that you won't be able to claim your rewards until this minimum amount of rewards has been generated. For example, if the current network fee is 0.0001 EGLD, you'll need to wait until you have at least 0.0003 EGLD. 

How to stake EGLD in your Atomic Wallet 

  1. Click Staking on the left sidebar;
  2. Select EGLD; 

  3. Click  Stake EGLD; 
  4. Decide on the amount to stake;

    Tip: We strongly recommend not to stake all your EGLD, as you won't be able to unstake your deposit later on otherwise. 

    You'll be charged a network fee by the EGLD blockchain for both staking and unstaking your deposit. The staking fee will automatically be deducted from the amount you're staking. We'd suggest you leave the same amount on your balance so that you can pay the fee once you decide to unstake your EGLD. 

  5. Enter your password and click Confirm; 

  6. Voilà, your EGLD deposit is now staked! Remember, however, that it will take several epochs until your funds are fully staked. Relax and wait for your first rewards to arrive. 
  1. Select the Staking tab in the bottom panel. 
  2. Tap EGLD; 
  3.  Tap Stake; 
  4. Decide on the amount to stake;

We recommend you leave the same amount on your balance so that you can pay the fee once you decide to unstake your EGLD. 

  5. Enter your password and tap Confirm;

  6. Voilà, your EGLD deposit is now staked! Remember, however, that it will take several epochs until your funds are fully staked. Relax and wait for your first rewards to arrive.

Note: the minimum reward claim amount is three times the amount of a network fee.  

You'll be receiving rewards arriving every day, at 02:20 PM UTC. You will need to claim your rewards manually.

How to unstake your EGLD 

  1. Select EGLD in the Staking tab.
  2. Select Unstake. 
  3. Enter the amount you want to unstake and select Unstake. Please note that unstaking takes 10 days. Your funds will appear as 'Pending Withdrawals'. 

In several days, your EGLD will appear under Available withdrawals. Just select Withdraw to have your coins deposited to your EGLD address.
