Troubleshooting Failed Bitcoin (BTC) Send Transactions

If your Bitcoin (BTC) send transactions from Atomic Wallet are failing to process, showing error messages, or getting stuck, this guide will walk you through the common causes and how to resolve them.

Common causes of failed BTC sends

Failed BTC transactions usually come down to one of the following:

  • An outdated wallet application.
  • Unstable or unreliable internet connectivity.
  • Interference from a VPN or firewall.
  • A temporary glitch within the Atomic Wallet application.
  • Synchronization issues with the Bitcoin network.
  • Insufficient network fees — though these are usually handled automatically by Atomic Wallet.

Step 1: Update and reload the application

Outdated software can cause compatibility issues with the blockchain network, leading to failed transactions.

  1. Go to Settings → About in Atomic Wallet to check for updates. If one is available, download and install it.
  2. After updating — or if no update was available — completely close Atomic Wallet and reopen it. This resolves many minor software glitches.

Step 2: Test with and without a VPN

A VPN can sometimes interfere with Atomic Wallet's ability to establish a stable connection to the Bitcoin network. Interestingly, the reverse can also be true — your ISP may have routing issues that a VPN would bypass.

  • If you're using a VPN: disable it temporarily and try sending again.
  • If you're not using a VPN: try enabling one and connecting to a different server location. If you have access to multiple locations, experiment by switching between them.

Step 3: Check your internet connection

A stable connection is essential for broadcasting transactions to the network.

  • Confirm your device is on a strong, consistent Wi-Fi or wired connection.
  • Try restarting your router or modem.
  • If possible, switch to an alternative connection such as a mobile hotspot, to rule out an issue with your primary network.
  • Check whether a firewall or antivirus is blocking Atomic Wallet's connection. Temporarily disabling it can help diagnose the cause.

Note: If you disable your firewall or antivirus for testing, remember to re-enable it immediately afterward. Leaving your device unprotected while managing cryptocurrency is a security risk.

Step 4: Contact support with transaction details

If you've worked through all the steps above and still can't send your BTC, contact Atomic Wallet support at support@atomicwallet.io. Please include:

  • Your current Atomic Wallet version.
  • A precise description of any error messages, with screenshots if possible.
  • The exact amount of BTC you're attempting to send.
  • The recipient's Bitcoin address.
  • The approximate date and time of the failed attempt.
  • A summary of the troubleshooting steps you've already tried.

What Atomic Wallet can and cannot do

Atomic Wallet can:

  • Provide a secure, user-friendly interface for managing your cryptocurrencies.
  • Offer troubleshooting steps and support for issues related to the wallet application itself.
  • Help diagnose connection problems between your wallet and the blockchain network.
  • Guide you through ensuring your wallet is correctly configured for transactions.

Atomic Wallet cannot:

  • Directly control or reverse transactions once they have been broadcast to the blockchain.
  • Resolve issues with your internet service provider or personal network hardware.
  • Access your private keys or funds under any circumstances — your funds remain solely under your control.
  • Guarantee transaction success if the blockchain network is experiencing congestion or other issues beyond the wallet's control.
