How to Identify and Avoid Phishing Fraud Requesting Funds
Phishing fraud and unauthorized access attempts are among the most common threats in the cryptocurrency space. Fraudsters try to trick users into revealing their seed phrase or private keys, or into sending funds directly to fraudulent addresses. Losing access to this information can result in the irreversible loss of your digital assets. This guide will help you recognize fraud tactics and know what to do if you encounter one.

How to recognize a phishing attempt
Fraudulent actors often impersonate legitimate services — including Atomic Wallet support — to gain your trust. Be alert to the following warning signs:
- Requests for your seed phrase, private keys, or password. Atomic Wallet will never ask for this information under any circumstances.
- Demands for upfront payments or "gas fees" to unlock funds, receive a prize, or access a service.
- Unusual transfer requests accompanied by a sense of urgency or threats.
- Suspicious emails, messages, or social media posts containing unverified links, grammatical errors, or generic greetings such as "Dear user."
- Promises of unrealistic returns, free cryptocurrency, or exclusive investment opportunities that seem too good to be true.
- Impersonation of Atomic Wallet staff through unofficial channels, misspelled domains, or accounts that closely resemble official ones.
- Pop-up warnings claiming your wallet is "locked" or "suspended" and requires payment or verification to restore access.
Atomic Wallet's policy: what we will never ask
Atomic Wallet is a non-custodial wallet. This means you are solely responsible for your seed phrase and private keys — and so are we when it comes to never requesting them.
- Atomic Wallet will never ask for your seed phrase, private keys, or password — in any channel, for any reason.
- Atomic Wallet will never ask you to send funds to unlock your wallet, access features, receive support, or transfer assets. Any such request is a fraud.
- Official communication from Atomic Wallet comes only through our official website (atomicwallet.io), the application itself, or verified social media channels. Always double-check URLs and sender identities before taking any action.
Remember: No legitimate wallet, exchange, or support team will ever ask for your seed phrase or private keys. Anyone who does is attempting to steal your funds.
What to do if you suspect a fraud
Stop and do not act:
- Do not click on any suspicious links or download attachments from unknown sources.
- Do not enter your seed phrase, private keys, or password on any website or application you have not explicitly verified.
- Do not send funds to any address requested by a suspicious party, regardless of their claims or urgency.
If you believe your wallet has been compromised:
- Create a brand new wallet with a new seed phrase immediately.
- Transfer all your assets from the potentially compromised wallet to the new one as quickly as possible.
- Change passwords for any associated accounts — such as email or exchanges — especially if you reused similar credentials.
Report the fraud:
- Report phishing emails to your email provider.
- Report suspicious websites to Google Safe Browsing or a similar service.
- Contact Atomic Wallet support at support@atomicwallet.io with all available details — screenshots, sender information, and URLs involved. While we cannot recover lost funds, your report helps us warn other users and improve our security advisories.
- If financial loss has occurred, consider reporting the incident to relevant law enforcement or cybercrime authorities in your jurisdiction.
