Why are my incoming transactions delayed in Atomic Wallet?

If you have sent cryptocurrency from your Atomic Wallet but the transaction is taking longer than expected to arrive, or is showing as pending for an extended period, this can be concerning — but it is a common occurrence with blockchain transactions. This guide explains why delays happen and how to check your transaction status.

Why transactions get delayed

Unlike traditional bank transfers, cryptocurrency transactions are processed on decentralized networks called blockchains. Transactions must be verified and added to blocks by miners or validators before they are complete. Several factors affect how quickly this happens:

  • Network congestion. When many transactions are sent across a blockchain at once, a backlog forms and transactions wait longer to be included in a block — slowing confirmation times for everyone.
  • Transaction fees. Most networks require a fee to incentivize miners or validators. If your fee is very low, they may prioritize higher-fee transactions, causing yours to be processed later.
  • Specific blockchain characteristics. Each cryptocurrency operates on its own blockchain with its own block time and confirmation requirements. Bitcoin's block time is around 10 minutes, while Ethereum's is faster — but both can experience delays, and some networks require multiple confirmations before a transaction is considered final.

Step 1: Locate your transaction hash (TXID)

The most effective way to understand a delayed transaction is to look it up on a block explorer using its unique identifier.

  1. Open Atomic Wallet.
  2. Go to the History tab.
  3. Find the transaction you are concerned about and click on it.
  4. Locate the Transaction ID (TXID) and copy it.

Step 2: Look it up on a block explorer

A block explorer is a website that lets you view all transactions and blocks on a specific blockchain.

  1. Open your browser and go to a block explorer for the cryptocurrency you sent — for example, blockchain.com for Bitcoin or etherscan.io for Ethereum.
  2. Paste your copied TXID into the explorer's search bar.

Step 3: Interpret the transaction status

  • Pending / Unconfirmed: your transaction has been broadcast to the network but has not yet been included in a block. It is still waiting for confirmation.
  • Confirmed: your transaction has been successfully included in a block and added to the blockchain. The number of confirmations is also shown — more confirmations mean a higher level of finality.
  • Not Found: the transaction may not have been broadcast successfully, or it is too new for the explorer to have indexed yet. Wait a few minutes and try again.

Note: If your transaction is pending, patience is key — the network will eventually process it. Once the explorer shows it as confirmed (with enough confirmations if the recipient requires them), it will appear in the recipient's wallet. A pending transaction cannot be sped up or cancelled from within Atomic Wallet.

What Atomic Wallet can and cannot do

Atomic Wallet acts as an interface to interact with various blockchain networks.

Atomic Wallet can:

  • Display your transaction history and provide the transaction hash (TXID).
  • Broadcast your transaction to the respective blockchain network.
  • Show the current status of your transaction as reported by the network.

Atomic Wallet cannot:

  • Speed up the confirmation process on a blockchain network.
  • Control network congestion or how miners/validators prioritize transactions.
  • Reverse or cancel a transaction once it has been broadcast. Once sent, a transaction is irreversible.
  • Directly influence the fees required by the network for faster processing.
