How to Troubleshoot Incorrect XRP Balance Display in Atomic Wallet
You may occasionally notice that your XRP balance in Atomic Wallet does not look correct — it might appear lower or higher than expected, or even show zero when you believe you should have XRP. This can be concerning, but it is often a display or synchronization issue rather than a loss of funds.

Why your XRP balance might look wrong
The most common reasons for an incorrect XRP balance display include:
- Temporary synchronization issues between Atomic Wallet and the XRP Ledger.
- Network congestion on the XRP network.
- A cached display error within the application.
- The XRP reserve requirement (see below), which can make your spendable balance appear lower than your total.
Note: The XRP Ledger requires every account to hold a minimum reserve of XRP, which cannot be spent or sent. This is a network rule, not an Atomic Wallet fee. If your balance seems lower than expected by a small fixed amount, the reserve is the most likely reason.
A note on the XRP reserve requirement
To activate and maintain an account on the XRP Ledger, the network requires a base reserve of XRP to be kept in the wallet at all times. This reserve is locked by the protocol and cannot be withdrawn while the account remains active. As a result, your spendable balance will always be slightly lower than your total balance. This is normal and applies to every XRP wallet, not just Atomic Wallet.
Step 1: Confirm your XRP address
First, make sure you are looking at the correct XRP wallet.
- Open Atomic Wallet and navigate to your XRP wallet.
- Click the Receive tab.
- Note your XRP address and the Destination Tag (if one is displayed). This is the address associated with your Atomic Wallet XRP.
Step 2: Check your balance on a block explorer
The most reliable way to confirm your actual XRP balance is to check it directly on the XRP Ledger.
- Open a browser and go to a reputable XRP block explorer, such as Bithomp or XRPScan.
- Copy your XRP address from Atomic Wallet (from Step 1) and paste it into the explorer's search bar.
- Press Enter to view the details for your address.
- Locate the balance displayed for your address.
Step 3: Compare the two balances
Now compare the balance shown on the block explorer with the one in Atomic Wallet.
- If the explorer shows the correct balance but Atomic Wallet does not, this is a display or synchronization issue within the application. Your funds are safe on the blockchain — follow Step 4 to fix it.
- If both the explorer and Atomic Wallet show an incorrect balance, the issue is not with the display but with the funds themselves — for example, they may have been sent to a different address, not sent correctly, or the difference is due to the XRP reserve requirement.
Step 4: Fix a display issue in Atomic Wallet
If the block explorer shows the correct balance but Atomic Wallet does not, try these steps in order:
- Refresh your wallet balance. In your XRP wallet, pull down on the screen (mobile) or click the refresh icon (desktop) to manually refresh.
- Restart Atomic Wallet. Completely close the app and reopen it. This resolves most temporary display glitches.
- Update Atomic Wallet. Make sure you are running the latest version. Check the official Atomic Wallet website or your app store for updates.
- Reinstall Atomic Wallet (last resort). If nothing else works, you can reinstall the app.
Important: Before reinstalling, make sure you have securely backed up your 12-word backup phrase. You will need it to restore your wallet and access your funds after reinstallation. Never share your backup phrase with anyone.
