ADA: Common Questions

Introduction

ADA is a Proof of Stake-based currency operating on the Cardano blockchain. The network features a revolutionary algorithm and is constantly evolving, so we recommend to always keep up with its ongoing developments. This way, you'll always be ready for what's coming next. What's more, any ADA holder has the right to vote on various blockchain policies & proposals, thus having a direct impact on its future course.

Why is my ADA balance at 0?

Summer 2020 has marked a new era for the Cardano blockchain, with it entering the Shelley stage of its planned evolution path. The address format has been changed, so you'll need to manually claim your ADA to see your old balance on your new address.

How to claim your ADA in the desktop app

  1. Go to the Wallet tab and choose ADA from the coin list.
  2. Click the icon at the top-right corner and pick the Claim ADA option.

How to claim your ADA in the mobile app

  1. Go to the Wallet tab and pick ADA from the coin list.
  2. Tap the icon at the top-right corner. Next, tap on Claim ADA.
If something's still wrong, please check our balance troubleshooting guide here.

Does Atomic Wallet charge any extra staking fees?

No, we don't have any fees on top of the ones charged by the Cardano blockchain. These are charged for any transaction the blockchain has to process. That includes staking (2 ADA), unstaking, and claiming. For more details, check our guide on ADA staking here.

When will I start receiving my staking rewards?

You'll see your first rewards in 3 epochs after staking your ADA. One epoch lasts for 5 days, which means it should take around 15 to 20 days for your first rewards to arrive at some point during the 4th epoch. You can track epochs at https://pooltool.io to check when the current one is to end.

For more details, refer to our guide on ADA staking here.

How to unstake my ADA?

There's no need to unstake your deposit, as your staked ADA never leave your address. If you still want your deposit to stop accumulating rewards (e.g. for tax purposes), you can create a new wallet and transfer your coins there. Make sure to backup your 12 word mnemonic phrase beforehand, or you may risk losing all of your funds!
